Staff

Qualified staff provide instruction and leadership on the slopes.

The two National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications held by the ATC staff are:

Snowsport Scotland Alpine Ski Leader (www.snsc.demon.co.uk/courses/asl.htm) – obtained after passing a six day course on snow.

British Association of Snowsports (BASI) (www.basi.org.uk) Alpine Ski Instructor – obtained after passing two courses over 15 days on snow.

Both qualifications have to be re-validated every three years and require a current first aid qualification.

Several of the qualified staff learned to ski as cadets on the first expeditions in Scotland. Most have never missed a year since and have good knowledge of the ski areas.

Ski staff travel out in advance of the main party and spend at least a day undergoing refresher training before skiing with cadets.

Other ATC staff provide back-up to the ski leaders on the slopes and assist to run the evening activity programme.

Every day a designated member of staff provides safety cover. They have access to a hire car and can take any casualty to hospital for a medical check up if required.

We are always keen to attract new members of adult staff. You don't have to be an expert skier - you can join in with the cadet groups to learn. All we require is a willingness to help, bags of energy and above all a massive sense of humour!

Anyone with these essential qualifications should contact Bristol and Gloucestershire Wing Headquarters (Tel 01452 722931).
