Ski Areas and Ski Awards
Exercise Alpine Adventure uses a variety of the ski areas in the Allgau. We will typically visit about four different areas during the week to provide cadets with experience of a range of slopes.
We make daily decisions about the ski area on the basis of skiing ability, snow and weather conditions.
Here is some information about the ski areas that we use and links to their websites for more details. Please use their webcams to check out the latest snow conditions.
Oberjoch www.skilifte-oberjoch.de
Normally our venue for the first few days of the exercise. It provides some of the best slopes that enable beginners to improve their confidence and competence on skis. Our experienced participants are able to take advantage of a wide variety of runs across the mountain.
Jungholz www.jungholz.de
We will normally visit Jungholz at some point during the week. It is situated in a small enclave of Austria and we literally cross an international border to ski there. It offers a number of runs of varying gradients and restaurants serving some of the best desserts.
Steibis www.imbergbahn.de
A rural venue providing a variety of different ski runs. Access has been greatly improved thanks to the introduction of a new gondola. Cadets always enjoy visiting a traditional alpine restaurant that only offers a limited menu but possibly the best Goulash soup to be found!
Hundle - www.huendle.de
Sometimes used on our final day. It has two base stations and gives the cadets the challenge of skiing across the mountain.
Ifen www.ifen.de
With a summit at 2232 metres, Ifen is our highest ski area. There is normally excellent snow on the upper slopes and the runs to the base are spectacular for all grades of skier.
Other areas we sometimes visit include:
Bolsterlang www.bolsterlang.de
Grunten www.gruentenlifte.de
Fellhorn www.fellhorn.de
Hoernerbahn www.hoernerbahn.de
Ofterschwang www.go-ofterschwang.de
Ski Awards
Exercise Alpine Adventure trains cadets towards achieving nationally recognised UK Snowsport Awards. The awards comprise a number of developmental activities.
The Snowlife Awards are split into nine colour levels. The award colours follow the same order as piste grades and end with bronze, silver and gold.
