Programme
Exercise Alpine Adventure is about skiing. Cadets spend more time on the slopes than on most school ski holidays so a good level of fitness is required for a very full week of physical activity. We tend to follow the below daily and weekly templates. These be adjusted if necessary e.g. because of changes to weather conditions. Weekly Routine Friday evening Depart Bristol and Gloucestershire Wing and South West Region area Saturday Travelling – arrival at lodges, unpacking and initial briefing Sunday Collect skis and boots from hire shops at Wertach (Vorderburg group) and Sonthofen (Muhle group) – with luck skiing at Oberjoch by 1100 hrs. Both lodges follow a similar programme but go shooting and swimming on different nights. The whole party comes together for Thursday's Gala Night. Saturday - Initial briefing and settling in Sunday - Swimming at the Cambomare Centre, Kempten (www.cambomare.de) where there are slides, indoor and outdoor pools. Alternative venues are the Wonnemar at Sonthofen (www.wonnemar.de) and Aquaria at Oberstaufen (www.aquaria.de). Monday - Quiz evening at the ski lodge. You can be assured that it is not University Challenge standard! Tuesday - Shooting night at Untergassen Shooting Club Every year both lodges are kindly hosted each year by Untergassen Shooting Club. Cadets compete in a shooting competition using target air rifles for the title ‘Expedition Shooting King’. The weapons are very accurate but quite heavy so the competition is a real challenge. Female and male cadet volunteers then take part in a Bavarian Leg Wrestling competition. The Shooting Club sells reasonably priced soft drinks and plates of chips to the cadets and staff with insatiable appetites. Wednesday - Indoor games evening at the ski lodge followed by pancakes cooked by our own Celebrity Chef - Squadron Leader Maurice Thompson. Thursday - Gala Night at Moosbach. The Gala Night is the climax of the entertainment programme. Both lodges attend and enjoy a cultural evening aided and abeted by the staff dressed as they have never been seen them before or are very unlikely to be seen again - until next year that is! Enjoyment is guaranteed with plenty of audience participation and cheesy music to create the right atmosphere for people to let their hair down after a hard week on the slopes. Friday - Packing bags and cleaning up the lodges ready for an early morning departure. Sometimes there is a slide show of the week's activities. Evening activities are included in the costs of Exercise Alpine Adventure. Cadets are responsible for paying for any food or drinks purchased at the venues.
